By the fall of 1979, it was time for Rod Stewart to release a greatest hits album for Warner Brothers. Having jumped to the label in 1975 with the Atlantic Crossing album, Stewart had racked up an impressive string of hits ripe for compiling (not to mention the impending holiday shopping season).

Showcasing singles from A Night on the Town (1976), Footloose & Fancy Free (1977), and Blondes Have More Fun (1978), the collection included #1 hits “Maggie May” and “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?” Released on October 12, 1979 and featuring a hard-to-miss bright pink cover, Rod Stewart's Greatest Hits Vol. 1 landed in plenty of holiday stockings that year.
