Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde has been busy in lockdown: she completed a new album of Bob Dylan covers, which she's releasing later this month.
Standing in the Doorway: Chrissie Hynde Sings Bob Dylan, available May 21, offers nine interpretations of the Nobel Prize-winning legend's deep songbook, recorded with bandmate James Walbourne "almost entirely by text message," according to a statement. Hynde would sing her vocals over Walbourne's guitar tracks and send their work to mixer Tchad Blake to finalize.

Walbourne also inspired Hynde to make the record after sending her "Murder Most Foul," the epic lead single from Dylan's most recent album Rough and Rowdy Ways. “Listening to that song completely changed everything for me,” Hynde said. “I was lifted out of this morose mood that I’d been in...That’s when I called James and said, ‘let’s do some Dylan covers’ and that’s what started this whole thing.”
The album includes deeper cuts from Dylan's discography, including "Love Minus Zero/No Limit," "You're a Big Girl Now," "Sweetheart Like You" and "Tomorrow is a Long Time." That latter track will lend its name to the title of an accompanying film that will cover the making of the album as well as exclusive performances of the songs Hynde and Walbourne picked. Tomorrow is a Long Time airs on Sky Arts in England on May 24, Dylan's 80th birthday.
