Directed by the duo Brendo+Gonfiantini and produced by LANDIA, the clip is packed with surreal images befitting the spacey, psychedelic sound of the track, from motorcycle tricks and lightning to melting hands and artificial colors.
As the closing track to L.A. Woman - The Doors' final album before frontman Jim Morrison's death in 1971, months after the album's release - "Riders" reached the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 in its original release, peaking at No. 14. The 50th anniversary edition of the album, available on three CDs and one LP, includes a mythical unreleased version of the track cut with longtime Doors producer Paul A. Rothchild before he acrimoniously departed the project. (Rothchild reportedly condemned the song as "cocktail music," and the band's longtime engineer Bruce Botnick would produce the album alongside the band.)
