Make some space on your shelf this year - or your coffee table - for two oversized chronicles of some great acts in classic rock history.
On July 15, Rufus Publications will release Sabbath: The Dio Years, a 440-page tome detailing Ronnie James Dio's influential tenure as the lead singer of Black Sabbath. Dio, who'd replaced Ozzy Osbourne, served as lead vocalist from 1979 to 1982 (during which time the band released Heaven & Hell and Mob Rules) and returned in 1991 for the Dehumanizer album. From 2006 to 2010, Dio, original Sabbath members Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler, and drummer Vinny Appice (who'd played on Mob Rules, replacing original drummer Bill Ward) also toured under the moniker Heaven & Hell; that period will also be chronicled in the book. Iommi and Butler participated in new interviews for the book, and Dio's widow Wendy opened up her archives to include many rare and unseen photos and memorabilia. (The singer's own autobiography is coming out the same month, more than a decade after his passing.)

The same day, the Kingmaker publisher will issue Genesis: 1975 to 2021 - The Phil Collins Years. As you might guess from the name, this tome will cover in great detail the period following Peter Gabriel's exit as lead singer of the British prog-rock outfit, after which Collins pulled double duty as drummer and singer. The band went on to incredible commercial success throughout the '70s, '80s and '90s. (Despite its title, the book will also cover lead singer Ray Wilson's tenure in place of Collins for 1997's Calling All Stations.) The book promises to cover each album and tour in-depth, with plenty of unpublished photographs as well.
Genesis - featuring Phil, original members Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks, longtime touring guitarist/bassist Daryl Stuermer and Collins' son Nic on drums - are planning The Last Domino? later this fall, a series of European tour dates (their first since 2007) that were rescheduled from 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
