Joni Mitchell's timeless classic "River" always makes it back to the forefront of seasonal music around the holiday season. This time, Ellie Goulding is bringing it back to save the planet.

Goulding's beautiful rendition of "River" exclusively premiered on Amazon Music in November, but the accompanying video recently released, depicting the singer-songwriter and her friends picking up discarded plastic on the beach to create a recycled Christmas tree.

“I have always loved Joni Mitchell, she was one of the first female artists that made me want to be a singer," shared Goulding about her cover. "She is one of the greatest songwriters of all time and I just truly hope that I have done this song some justice."

Goulding, who is a United Nations Global Ambassador, also emphasized the critical urgency of reducing the use of single use plastic. "Shooting the video in Dungeness was beautiful but a timely reminder that every single piece of plastic ever made is still on this planet. Plastic stuff is everywhere and our coastlines are suffering horrendously.”

The reusable tree will be donated to The Village Prep School in North London, to which the philanthropic Goulding shared her happiness that "it will live on [there], hopefully visiting many more schools to come."
