The 2020 Grammy Award Nominations were released early this morning and on the rock front, the big names elected this year include Tool, Tony Iommi, and Chris Cornell.
Tool received double nominations, with "Fear Inoculum" (the album title track) receiving a nod for Best Rock Song and another nod for "7empest" in the category of Best Metal Performance. Joining the category for Best Metal Performance was Black Sabbath's Iommi for his contributions to Candlemass' "Astorlus - The Great Octopus." The other double nominee was Rival Sons, up in the running for Best Rock Performance with "Too Bad" as well as Best Rock Album with Feral Roots. I Prevail was also recognized for Best Rock Album for Trauma in addition to Best Metal Performance for "Bow Down."
In other categories, Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell scored a nod for Best Historical Package for his work in his self-titled legacy album that spans wide across his musical career.
The David Crosby documentary Remember My Name and the Showtime series about Rick Rubin's studio Shangril-La are up against each other in the category for Best Music Film.
Other notable nominations include the 38-CD Woodstock: Back to the Garden - The Definitive 50th Anniversary Archive earning double nods in the categories of Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package and Best Historical Album.
