Paramount has released a new trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog, the film based on the world's speediest hedgehog.

"This is my power," Sonic reveals in the improved trailer. "And I'm using it to protect my friends." The furry blue creature has gone through a remarkable makeover since its debut in the initial trailer release earlier this year, which sparked immediate fan backlash regarding the character's design. Sonic's recent transformation includes smaller teeth, smoother fur, and bigger eyes.

Directed by Jeff Fowler, the film follows Sonic as he adjusts to his new home on Earth. Just before he's fully settled, he teams up with his new best friend Tom to defend the planet from evil genius Dr. Robotnik and his plans to takeover the wold.

Starring in the cast is Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, alongside James Marsden, Adam Pally, and Tika Sumpter. Set to Ramones' 1976 adrenaline anthem "Blitzkrieg Bop", the trailer, depicts Carrey hunting down the hedgehog in full action-packed comedic fashion.

Written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller, Sonic The Hedgehog will be released in theaters nationwide on February 14.
