Many might know Gerry Rafferty for 1978's "Baker Street," an international Top 5 hit with the wailing sax solo between the vocals. Some might remember him as one of the core members of Stealers Wheel, the Scottish folk-rockers behind another big smash called "Stuck in the Middle with You" (you know, the one that scored that scene in Reservoir Dogs).
His daughter Martha hopes fans of those works will check out Rest in Blue, a new album completed more than a decade after his passing in 2011 - and she's talking to the Rhino Podcast about her father's legacy.
Released on Sept. 3, the album features 14 new tracks, all sourced from demos spanning back throughout his entire career and fleshed out under the supervision of Martha and her father's longtime best friend, playwright John Byrne. (There's even a country-style version of "Stuck in the Middle" recorded in the mid-'90s.)
Martha tells some great stories about her dad, from his early days as a musician in his native Scotland (including team-ups with actor-comedian and fellow countryman Billy Connolly) to the unique directions the songs off Rest in Blue took from demo to finished product.
