Have you seen your last rock concert? With the global COVID-19 pandemic shutting down the live event industry for the time being, industry experts are wondering just how many of us plan on ever going back.
Variety reports that a new survey of 1,000 Americans found that 44% of respondents said that they will attend fewer public events going forward, even after the CDC gives the all-clear. Even more sobering, 47% of them said that just the idea of going to a large event “will scare me for a long time.”

The survey, which was conducted by Performance Research in partnership with Full Circle Research Co. found that for those who do plan to return, the thought of germs and disease will be front of mind. Two-thirds of respondents expressed concern over the cleanliness and sanitation of venues, and especially the restrooms, will be much higher than before. Other major concerns included cleanliness of food service areas, and just being in the general proximity of so many strangers in large crowds.
On the positive side, more than half of the respondents (53%) expressed a “pent-up desire to attend the events I love,” with 46% stating that they will value being able to go to large events more than they did before the pandemic.
