Nick Mason remembers. The Pink Floyd drummer's band, Saucerful of Secrets, is set to release a new concert 2CD+DVD/2LP/Blu-ray and digital set, Live at the Roundhouse, on April 17. Comprised of 22 performances from a pair of 2019 shows at the London venue, among the DVD highlights include a version of Pink Floyd classic, "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun." The track is taken from 1968 Pink Floyd album, Saucerful of Secrets.

The band performing with Mason includes Spandau Ballet guitarist Gary Kemp, longtime Pink Floyd touring bassist Guy Pratt, guitarist Lee Harris and keyboardist Dom Beken. Maon's premise with Saucerful of Secrets was that the group only play Pink Floyd music that predates Dark Side of the Moon.
“I knew I couldn’t play ‘Comfortably Numb’ better than David or Roger, or indeed even the Australian Pink Floyd [tribute band],” Mason told Rolling Stone in 2018. “It became a matter of finding something else that engaged us.”
For Mason, it was honoring an era of the band that often gets lost: "I think really just looking through the catalog and thinking, 'There’s some great songs here and there’s some sort of heritage.' I wanted to get away from having to do the perfect rendition of old songs while very politically steering myself way from becoming the ultimate tribute band. A tribute to myself felt very uncomfortable. It needed something … It was a bit of 'Let’s try and get the sort of feel of some of that early music without slavishly trying to learn every detail of it or indeed match the tempo of it specifically,' or whatever."
