People Can't Stop Buying Fleetwood Mac's 'Rumours' on Vinyl

You might've heard that vinyl had quite a big year in 2021. Collectors, working from home during the pandemic, found lots of titles to add to their collections, and Billboard reported that 2.11 million records were sold in America during the week before Christmas - the most since the magazine started tracking data electronically 30 years ago.

On Tuesday (Jan. 4), Hits Daily Double issued a list of the 20 best-selling LPs of the year, and classic rock fans might like to know that Rumours, Fleetwood Mac's bestselling masterpiece, is still a hot item on vinyl. The disc sold about 170,000 new copies - enough to put it at No. 12 on the list.

Rumours, which has sold more than 20 million copies in America as of 2014, outpaced vinyl sales for titles by Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Harry Styles, along with Michael Jackson's Thriller, Queen's Greatest Hits, Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon and Metallica's self-titled 1992 album. The only classic rock-adjacent titles that did better were The Beatles' Abbey Road and Prince's Purple Rain.

Nearly 45 years after it was first released, the sounds of "Go Your Own Way," "Dreams," "Don't Stop," "You Make Loving Fun" and "The Chain" still get people excited to head to their record stores and snag a copy. And y'know what? We can't blame them.
