The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars - perhaps the first classic David Bowie album in a discography full of them - will get reissued on vinyl this summer to mark its 50th anniversary.

Having already enjoyed a taste of success with the single "Space Oddity" in 1969 - just as man walked on the moon for the first time - Ziggy Stardust found Bowie crafting a dazzling glam-rock opera based around the titular rock star, a gender-bending alien meant to save the world from disaster with the power of his music. Featuring the Top 10 hit "Starman" (memorably performed by Bowie on Top of the Pops in England) and other radio staples like "Suffragette City," "Moonage Daydream" and the title track, Ziggy came to define Bowie's early '70s, as he adopted (and ultimately retired) the character for his own dynamic performances.

The new Ziggy vinyl releases, coming June 17 - a day after the exact golden anniversary of the original album - will feature the album as a picture disc or a half-speed master. Both feature new lacquers of the album cut by John Weber at AIR Studios. The picture disc will also come with a replica of an original promotional poster.
