A recent Sotheby's auction might have you reaching in the back of your closets for your vintage concert t-shirts.

An original yellow Grateful Dead tee, designed in 1967 by Allan "Gut" Terk, was sold by the esteemed auction house for an eye-watering $17,640. This shatters the record for most expensive vintage rock shirt sold at an auction; the honor previously went to an eBay seller who scored a cool $10,000 for a 1979 Led Zeppelin shirt in 2011.

The shirt was in the collection of Dan Healy, an engineer who worked with the group at the time. It is believed to be the band's first mass-produced piece of merch.

Three original Dead members - guitarist Bob Weir and drummers Mikey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann - are wrapping up their latest tour as Dead & Company later this month, alongside singer/guitarist John Mayer, bassist Oteil Burbridge and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. Oct. 8 saw the release of the new box set Listen to the River: St. Louis '71 '72 '73.
