A winter surge in COVID-19 cases has forced David Lee Roth to cancel his planned final shows in Las Vegas.
The original Van Halen frontman called time on his wild career this past October, just before his 67th birthday and the one-year anniversary of guitarist Eddie Van Halen's death. The plan was for a brief series of shows at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay in Vegas, kicking off on New Year's Eve 2021 and New Year's Day 2022. Those first shows (to be followed by more in January) were pushed to February before the full cancellation, confirmed by a representative on Monday (Jan. 3).

As the cancellations were confirmed, Roth posted a picture reading "A funny thing happened on the way to Las Vegas..." to his Instagram account. He then issued a statement to Entertainment Weekly acknowledging the reality of the situation and - perhaps - leaving the door open for more shows for a good cause or two.
"Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, we got rained out...Covid cancelled," the statement read. "Future shows? When the benefit concerts for Colorado, Farm Aid, and hospital workers 'everywhere' come up; Call me..."
